I am Jaret Loggenberg, a local figure artist currently residing in Somerset West. My ultimate aim as an artist is to inspire people. My art is unique, but still open ended, so that viewers can make their own personal connections.
Born in 1994, I grew up on a farm outside Parys. I first discovered my passion for art and culture at the age of 10. In 2010 I sold my first painting, which enabled me to attend an art tour in Europe.
After I matriculated, however, my father advised me to study for a BCom degree. He felt that I won’t make a living from art.
I have always been in awe about the human body and anatomy. I spent hours in the library researching figure art and the human body, and so I discovered my love for human figures.
As a figure artist, my subject matter is women figures, celebrating the beauty and strength of women.
I make use of a stroke technique that I developed myself over the years I have spent painting.
I prefer oil on canvas as medium of choice. The reason for this is that it gives a very definite message and portrays a specific emotion. At the same time, however, it is still open-ended in the sense that every viewer can make their own personal connection with the artwork.
My paintings reflect the natural warmth, emotions, and inner beauty of a true female.
It doesn’t matter what your background is or where you come from, all women over the globe experience the same discrimination and stereotyping that all women can relate to. As art is a universal language, my works can reach many women around the globe and, hopefully, inspire them to rise up.
“It doesn’t matter what has happened to us in the past, we should rise up and take back life. We are not victims, but victors.”
